Is scuba diving dangerous?
No, when done responsibly and with proper training scuba diving has a really good safety record and this is mainly due to the training we do before participating in our adventurous sport. All diving agencies provide training by qualified instructors in sheltered water (pool or safe shallow site) before moving their students to deeper and more exposed dive sites.

Is scuba diving expensive?
Joining one of BSAC's clubs is the most cost-effective way to start diving. You will pay your BSAC membership and your club's subscription for the year and then your club instructors will provide your training. Local club fees vary but typically you could learn to dive (and get other club benefits such as pool access, events and diving opportunities once you’ve learned) for between £350 and £500.

What equipment will I need?
To start your training you will not need much, only a towel and swimwear. Trial dive kit will be provided by the club. In addition, most inland dive sites provide rental service.
Once you start diving regularly you may want to buy some of your own kit, this may include:
- fins
- SCUBA regulator
- BCD
- air cylinder
- wetsuit or a dry suit

Dive equipment comes is all shapes and sizes, and choosing the right pieces for you can be daunting. Before purchasing any dive kit ask one of our instructors for advice.

How often do you dive?
As a club we organise regular trips and we typically have something in the calendar every 2 - 4 weeks. It depends on the season as winter diving can get a little uncomfortable after a while. That said not everyone dives every time there is a trip.

How long is the training and where will I train?
The benefit of getting certified with BSAC and our club is that you can take the training as fast or as slow as you like. However, typical training takes a few months. As part of the initial training there are 6 theory lessons, 5 pool lessons and 4 open water lessons. The theory lessons can be done online at your leasure. Our pool is located in Immingham (see trial dive page for exact location). Most of our open water training is conducted in a local dive centre in North Cave - 8 Acre lake.

Will my certification be recognised worldwide?
Yes, BSAC certifications are recognised worldwide. Here is a BSAC equivalent certifications from different schools: Equivalent BSAC qualifications - British Sub-Aqua Club

I have a medical condition, can I scuba dive?
It's crucial to consult with a doctor and disclose any medical conditions. Certain conditions may not be suitable for diving. All BSAC members sign a medical declaration and you may be advised to obtain medical clearance from qualified medical professional.
